Inreach OutReach

The Inreach / Outreach Committee helps St. Mary’s Episcopal Church fulfill its mission to the parish and community, whether that community is the county, state, nation, or world.

The Inreach portion of the committee focuses on meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the parish whether that is providing meals to parishioners at times of need or linking members of the congregation in prayer for someone.  Inreach also welcomes new members to the parish.

Funeral Ministry

Our ‘Funeral Ministry’ was designed to offer assistance to St. Mary’s families in their time of need.

We have a group of volunteers that assist with providing refreshments after the funeral service. We take care of the setting, serving, ordering, or donating of food items and cleaning up of Shaffer Hall.

There are guidelines for these services which are discussed with the families prior to the repast.  Our hope is to ease some of their burden during these difficult times.

Sparta Ecumenical Council Food Pantry

As part of our work as a charter member of the Sparta Ecumenical Council, St. Mary’s supports the Sparta Food Pantry – a 501(c)(3) entity of the SEC. The Food Pantry, located at First Presbyterian Church, 32 Main Street, Sparta, NJ, serves families across Sussex  County. Annually, more than 10,000 people are assisted with food donations.

In addition to ongoing collection of non-perishable food items, we also give generously to several special collections during the year.

Eric Johnson House

For more than twenty years, teams from St. Mary’s have provided monthly meals to residents at the Eric Johnson House in Morristown, NJ. Now formally called New Jersey AIDS Services, Inc. (NJAS) to fully encompass the range of services it delivers, Eric Johnson House provides housing and other intensive support for homeless men and women living with HIV/AIDS. Currently there are no other programs in Morris, Sussex, or Warren counties to help meet the specific needs of this vulnerable group.

Smiles

SMILES stands for ‘St. Mary's Incredible Luscious Edibles’.  We provide meals to parishioner families with meals during times of need.

This is often when one family member is in the hospital or recuperating.  It eases the burden on the other family members.

If you would like to participate please email the committee chairs. (Look to the right side of this page!)

Prayer Chain

Elizabeth (Liz) Terpak e-mails to Prayer Chain members the prayer requests she receives from parishioners on behalf of themselves or someone they know.

After receiving these e-mails from Liz, individuals often respond through private e-mail, offering words of consolation to the requestor or those the requestor asked prayers for.

Manna House

Manna House is a soup kitchen serving lunch to anyone who is in need of a delicious lunch, which is served by volunteers from churches around Sussex County.  Manna House was started over 20 years ago and serves lunch from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm every day Monday through Friday.  The food is fresh and nutritional and most of the time made from scratch by volunteers, unless an organization brings a meal from a dinner held the night before.  Each day a group of volunteers from different churches and organizations provide for the preparation of the meal.  St.
